Southport
We had an encounter with a couple of whales yesterday - up close and personal. A bit too close and personal for my liking!!! Two huge humpbacks decided they liked the look of our yacht and started following us about 15 metres behind - diving and surfacing immediately behind us. We tried to outmanoeuvre them by changing direction a few times but they decided that this game of "follow the leader" was good fun. Getting a little concerned at their close proximity and enormous size we started the engine to try and discourage them - finally they tired of their game and moved away to play elsewhere. I wasn't too happy they had picked our boat to play with and kept telling John to do something. "Like what" he retorted "get out and punch them in the nose???"

Oh Kate, I can imagine that it was a pretty stressful time with the whales. Glad you are ok. Pretty animals but oh so big!
ReplyDeletePlayed tennis today. I am in Milissa's team. She is still in shock as we have scraped in a win both weeks. She was a bit nervous being number one now. Girls spoilt me with lovely cakes etc as it is my birthday on Saturday. Miss Faye's beautiful cakes. She really had some great recipes didn't she? Have now given your blog address to Michelle as she asked for it. She says she isn't very good on the computer but was interested to read about your trip. Will message again, Jane
Hi Jane, thanks for the comment. It's always good to hear how things are going back home. I do miss all the girls at tennis and all the chitchat. I did remember your birthday and was going to wait until Saturday to send you birthday wishes but I will send them to you now. We had coffee with Veronica and Don last Sunday afternoon and this morning, Marg Scott and Ken called in for a coffee also. It was great to see them both. We head off for Mooloolaba in the early hours of tomorrow morning and should be there by mid afternoon - hoping the whales keep their distance - lovely as they are. Kate & John
ReplyDeleteHi again,
ReplyDeleteI love Mooloolaba! Haven't been there in a while. How lovely to catch up with Veronica, Marg and spouses. Thanks for the good wishes for my birthday. ( you owe me one of your hummingbird cakes, only joking!) Jane ):
Hello John and Kate, it was really great to catch up with you at Southport. Ken loves the boat. we have put on a bit of weight at the Sheraton (two little piggies went to lunch)
ReplyDeleteGreat to see you got to Mooloolaba safely and you got to Fraser Island also.
Will be heading home on Saturday so will find it easier to get to a computer so you two just enjoy and stop harrassing the whales.
Love Marg and Ken
